Johnson Center, D
The Religious Studies department is pleased to present a special workshop on "Theology and the University" with Professor John Haughey, S.J. from Georgetown University.
Father John Haughey is a Senior Fellow in Woodstock’s Science & Religion Program and Arrupe Program in Social Ethics for Business. He has also coordinated Woodstock’s work on the theology of Catholic Higher Education. He directs an ongoing colloquium on transhumanism, a group of scholars who have been meeting since 2009 to discuss the response of the Catholic intellectual tradition to the World Transhumanism Association’s tenets, namely, that it is only a matter of time before science and technology will deliver the goods that the religions promised. Another area of theological interest for Father Haughey is the role of charism in the church and world: how does the Holy Spirit move each individual person to his or her individual call to work for the common good?
