Prof. Renteln will provide a comparative analysis of policies requiring individuals to render assistance to those in distress. Although the conventional wisdom is that civil law systems generally include this mandate and common law systems do not, there appears to be a trend toward greater legal compulsion for rescue in both. Prof. Renteln will also discuss the implications of finding a cross-cultural consensus supporting a legal duty to rescue for global justice.
