The course investigates works of religious literature by men and women of different religious cultures, engaging a variety of spiritual questions, including the meaning of innocent suffering, the importance of social justice, and the religious bases for environmental ethics. The encounter with the divine and the importance of story are key concepts in understanding literary treatments of religious experience from Old Testament Wisdom literature to postmodern allegory.
