Professor Sachedina Speaks on Religious Pluralism

Last month, Professor Abdulaziz Sachedina, IIIT Chair of Islamic Studies, participated in an important conference in Najaf, Iraq, hosted by the University of Kufah, on Religious Pluralism as Envisioned in the Dialogue of Civilizations. In his presentation, he proposed practical steps that government agencies and NGOs can take toward resolving interfaith and intrafaith conflicts in Iraq, particularly those involving Sunni-Shiite differences. His use of authentic texts and moral realism allowed participants to engage in a frank exchange and provided textually “authentic” guidance to make the case for forgiveness as a key to mend fractured intercommunal relations in Iraq.
