Section Information for Spring 2023

In this course, students explore the history, scriptures, beliefs, and practices of the major monotheistic religions that originated among the peoples of the Near East: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Abrahamic religions. The "Western" monotheisms. Two of the three biggest religious traditions in the world by number of adherents. Sound important? It's too much to handle in a single semester, so we'll do deep dives into a series of topics: creation, sin, sexuality, immigration, apocalypticism, scripture, ritual. Best of all, a class like this is for everyone. If you're an observant Muslim, a believing Christian, a secular Jew, an atheist, an ex-Christian, this class is designed to teach you more than you already do about all of these traditions. If you know a lot about these traditons, you still only know a slice of the whole. If you know next to nothing about them, this is a great place to start.
